On Aug. 15, 1986, quarterback Babe Laufenberg lit the preseason fireworks for the last time as a Redskin, completing 13 of 20 passes with a TD in a come-from-behind 27-24 win over Steelers.  The Babe, a Redskin 6th round draft pick in 1983, had a habit of thrilling crowds at RFK Stadium in the dog days of summer, and he became known as “Mr. August.”  But one of the most beloved preseason players in team history – a man with rock star hair length, and an unorthodox release – never set foot in a real Redskins game.  He did play in the regular season for the Saints, Chargers and Cowboys, before retiring after the 1990 season.
