EXCERPT:

According to Rule 4-4a of the Rules of Golf, a golfer can carry a maximum of 14 clubs during a round. The 14 can be any combination of clubs, giving players flexibility to match their equipment to their skilled and the conditions. For example, in addition to a sand wedge and a pitching wedge, many Tour players carry a third wedge and make do with just two woods. If a golfer starts a round with fewer than 14 clubs, he or she may add clubs during the round until the limit is reached.
