University of Maryland: A Front Line for Homeland Security (Fall 2003)

In this article for the University of Maryland's alumni magazine, Terp, Mike Richman profiles the university's efforts to strengthen its involvement in homeland security following the horrific terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.  The article explains that the university maintains close ties to U.S. government agencies and research labs that want more studies done on homeland security.  The university receives grants for those studies.  The article also features a criminology and criminal justice professor who heads a program at Maryland to computerize a log of thousands of cases of terrorism over a period of about three decades.  That information documents where and when the terrorist attacks occurred, and the motives behind them.
